My name is Jenny Shickley, and I have been in teaching for eleven years. I started my career as a high school language arts teacher at my own high school, CD East High in Harrisburg, PA.
Over the first eight years of teaching I taught Freshmen Speech, 9th grade English Survey, and 10th grade Honors American Literature. During that time I also attended Penn State University (at Harrisburg campus as well as their online World campus) and received my ESL (English as a Second Language) certificate and a Master’s Degree in Children’s Literature.
For the last 3 years of my career I have been an ESL teacher/case manager for grades 9-12 in the same high school. I like to joke, “Same room, different job!” Seriously though, this shift in my career has been very rewarding. I enjoy the students immensely.
My future plans include creating a blended ESL class with both direct classroom instruction as well as online content through my district’s Moodle page.
